Happy 4 Month Birthday Colin!
And happy 2010 to all of you!!!
Colin is so much fun right now. I think I write that every month but it's always true! He is full of personality and is having fun giggling and making more and more sounds. He really is social and enjoys being talked to. I peeked in his pack n play one morning and he just laughed with glee when he saw me. Talk about a nice way to begin the day! He also notices more when we put him down or walk away and he tells us exactly what he thinks about it, too. He enjoys chewing on his hands and fingers. He's also drooling more and we're wondering if he's working on growing some teeth.
I'm now back at work. It is very different to be away from Colin for so many hours in a row. Today I found myself picking him up even when he was sleeping just so I could hold him. In the above picture, Colin woke up while I was holding him and I quickly got his picture. He's smiling but he's really thinking "Mom, when can I go back to sleep?" I'm finding that there are just not very many hours in the day. I'm also hoping that Colin doesn't forget who his mom is. I am very thankful for the amount of time I've had to spend at home with Colin. I know others who have had to go back to work much earlier. I'm just realizing that the time already feels too short and I'll have to work to make the best of the time I do have with him. I am lucky to work with supportive co-workers who feel family-like after almost 12 years of working together. Many have stopped by to share their own experiences and to let me know this will get easier (although one co-worker told me in a very matter of fact way that it would always be hard and wouldn't get any easier). Colin is in very good hands during the day and it is nice to have no worries about his care. For having to go back to work and having to leave him with someone else, I feel lucky to have a good situation. And I think going back to work is much harder on me then it is on him. He doesn't seem phased by it at all. : )
Brrrrrrrrrrr. It is very, very, very, very cold here. I hope this post finds you staying warm and cozy despite the chilly weather!

Wow. The months are certainly flying by quickly!
ReplyDeleteYes, going back to work is a huge transition. I'm glad Colin isn't phased -- he has dual advantages on his side: his personality and the secure, loving home you've welcomed him into. I'm glad you have the advantages of supportive co-workers and excellent daycare, but please do go easy on yourself as you adjust to the juggling and the realities of it all.
Winter, yes. Brrrrrrrr. Here's to a wonderful 2010!
